The American English Webinar 5.2 discusses Using New Sources to Enhance Learning in the EFL Classroom. During this webinar I explore how to use news sources to enhance language learning in the classroom; classroom activities to increase vocabulary development, strategies for using news to teach listening, speaking, reading, and writing, and how to find level appropriate, open source news items to use. In using news sources it will give challenges and benefit in EFL classroom. Not to worry, it is explained how to use news sources to support the language target. Hopefully I am able to create lesson that use news sources because news sources is easy to find. In addition I have to decide which news sources that appropriate and suitable for students to help them develop language skill.

It is a good video on exploring how to use news sources to enhance learning in the EFL classrooms. Learning and teaching EFL are not only about the content, but also grammar, pronunciation, and structure. Using news as the source is essential. The focus is on using news to teach language skill both receptive and productive skills, not teaching the news. This video presents classroom activities, strategies, how to find level appropriateness and sources for our students. The lesson sequence that is started with lesson warm up and pre-teaching of vocabulary will lead to the comprehension check. After that, the focus is on specific language building that will come to the application. For me as a teacher who works with adult students from oil and gas industry, I must consider the choice of the news based on the topic appropriateness, the students’ English level, length, and genre approach in order to engange the students on the lesson. Student newspaper project is a nice idea to be implemented in my class. Mr. Rudi, thank you for the opportunity to watch this video giving the useful information.
BalasHapusThe previous video focused on how to teach grammar in class. On the other hand, this video focuses on the use of news sources in teaching and learning process, especially for EFL class. This video is very useful for the teacher in Indonesia since English is a Foreign Language. The teaching and learning process should include language skills, which are listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Moreover, the teacher should also teaches about language knowledge, such as grammar, pronunciation, and structure. Using news source in teaching and learning process is a good idea, since the students can learn many things at once. The video gave the idea of how to create a good teaching and learning environment by creating some classroom activities. Moreover, the presenter also gave the idea of a good teaching order, begins with warm up activities. This activity includes vocabulary building. The teacher also should consider about the news source which is suitable for the material given and based on the students’ language level. BalasHapusThis video is very useful in developing teaching and learning process especially in EFL classroom. The learning enhances the integrated skill in English, more than that it also improves particular skill like grammar and pronunciation. Ms. Eve Nora Litt as the presenter also talked that the proper material was the key of learning success, however it does not mean that the material was more important than target language. What we can take from Ms. Eve's explanation is that in realizing the target language, the teacher should choose proper material depending on the current situation and students’ need. BalasHapusUsing news as one of sources to teach material in EFL classroom can be an alternative to teach English since news have four skill of English, those are reading, speaking, listening, and writing. It is like a package of knowledge in once. News are easy to find since social media are dominating in every aspects of life. News give challenge to the teachers and the students. The teachers are challenging how to improve the teaching ability using different sources, and for the students, they are force to learn something new which is little bit difficult to them. This is about the teachers’ job to create the appropriate strategies, for a good strategy will give good effect whether the sources difficult or not. Such an interesting video. Thank you sir.

She gives an example of the use of news to build students' language skills that they learn step by step from the receptive stage to productive level. The video inspires me to use news in my classroom. however, the topic must be suitable to the topic of the syllabus.
BalasHapusAs an English teacher, of course we have to be able to teach students in mastering four skills. Using news could be a solution for both teachers and students to learn four skills plus pronunciation and grammar. A teacher should not only teach receptive skill but also productive skill. News could be kind of how teachers teach their student stage by stage. The focus on teaching is not about the content of the news but how students learn language through the news. This is very inspiring; hope I can try to use this method in my class.

According to me, using news as the source is a good idea because each news has different topic. While we use it as a source in listening, speaking, reading and writing class, we can learn the context of situation of the news, so that we might get new insight more. However, teachers should be consider in determining what news that will be used as the source in their class, it should be appropriate with the age, social culture, and level of their students. What I mean, the teachers have to see the conditions of society and the students' condition in the class. As an example, news, news is very easily found by teachers and students. It will facilitate them in doing activities in the classroom. Such as reading and writing may even listening the content of the news and speaking (conveying) the content in the news. We have to be creative in applying the media and our method with the lesson.
